Robber returns to store to buy a pack of gum
BRAWLEY -- Police today were expected to seek charges against a suspect
in an Aug. 22 convenience store robbery who was arrested Tuesday when
he allegedly returned to the scene of the crime.Ramon Guerrero Jr., 20 of Brawley, is facing charges of robbery and
resisting arrest, said Brawley police Lt. John Myers. He remained this morning in the Imperial County jail. His bail information
was unavailable.Guerrero is the suspect in a robbery on Aug. 22 at the 24/7 convenience
store at Third and A streets, Myers said.A man walked into the store armed with a rifle and demanded money from the
clerk. At least one other person was in the store at the time, possibly another clerk. The suspect fled with $160, Myers said.
At 9 p.m. Tuesday Guerrero walked back into the convenience store, Myers
said, to purchase gum.The same clerk who had been held up a week earlier reportedly recognized Guerrero
as the gunman. The second person who had been at the store a week earlier was
there Tuesday night and also reportedly recognized Guerrero.Police were contacted and Guerrero, who purchased the pack of gum, was taken into
custody. He struggled a bit with police and that is why he is facing a count of resisting
arrest, Myers said.It is up to the District Attorney's Office to file charges based on police information.
If charges are not filed today, Guerrero will be released from custody.
